Afsluitdijk

Competition

2009

Within the framework of the Afsluitdijk Market Survey, the Ministry for Transport, Public Works and Water Management invited the Sustainability Centre to contribute to the development of ideas for the future of the Afsluitdijk (Netherlands). Continuing these developments, the foundation has taken the initiative, in collaboration with Delft University of Technology and the Cartesius Institute, to hold a public ideas competition for the World Sustainability Centre Afsluitdijk.

In addition to a main hall for changing exhibitions, the competition programme required also the inclusion of several smaller showrooms, an auditorium, conference rooms, a lobby and a restaurant. Sustainability was an important issue within the design process and reflects of course the idea of the foundation itself.
